Application of Qihong LQ-3716 Oxidized Polyethylene Wax in Asphalt Modification

    With the development of the national economy and the popularization of household cars, traffic flow and driving frequency have increased sharply, and the axle load of freight vehicles has also continued to increase. These changes in the service environment have posed severe challenges to the performance of petroleum asphalt. This requires further improving the pavement's resistance to flow, i.e., the ability to resist rutting at high temperatures; enhancing flexibility and elasticity, i.e., the ability to resist cracking at low temperatures; and improving wear resistance and extending service life. Petroleum asphalt is modified to meet the above harsh service requirements. After decades of research and development, a wide variety of modified road asphalts, waterproofing membranes and coatings have emerged, showing certain practical engineering effects.

    Qihong Oxidized Polyethylene Wax LQ-3716, as an auxiliary material for asphalt modification, features reducing viscosity, resisting high-temperature aging, having a high melting point, improving surface hardness, wear resistance, and scratch resistance. When used in asphalt modification, it has the following characteristics:

(1) Reduces the softening point, enabling lower mixing and paving temperatures; lowers viscosity, adjusts and improves leveling property, ensures good fluidity, facilitates construction, and enhances construction efficiency.

(2) Wear resistance, scratch resistance, and abrasion resistance: Wax is distributed in the coating film to protect it, prevent scratches and abrasions, and provide wear resistance and high-temperature rutting resistance.

(3) Chemical resistance: Due to the stability of wax, the coating film is endowed with better water resistance, salt spray resistance and other properties.

(4) Improves surface hardness, enhances the low-temperature flexibility of asphalt, and resists high-temperature aging.

Performance Comparison Chart of Modified Asphalt Prepared with Different Components of Oxidized Polyethylene Wax

    From the experimental data in the chart above, it can be concluded that when Qihong LQ-3716 oxidized polyethylene wax is added to asphalt in a small amount of 0.3%-0.5%, compared with traditional asphalt polymers, it can increase the penetration of asphalt and reduce the softening point of asphalt.

Indoor Processing Technology:
    Asphalt heating temperature: 140-150℃; Aggregate heating temperature: 160-170℃; Asphalt mixture mixing temperature: 145-155℃; Compaction temperature: 135-140℃. The dosage is 0.3%-0.5% of the aggregate mass.

Mixing Process:

1. Pour the heated aggregate into the mixing pot.
2. Add the weighed oxidized polyethylene wax LQ-3716 into the mixing pot and dry mix for 30 seconds.
3. Add the weighed asphalt binder into the mixing pot and wet mix for 90 seconds.
4. Add the weighed mineral powder into the mixing pot and continue mixing for 90 seconds.
